Some Things are Non-Negotiable
Food safety and quality are embedded in our culture and prioritized by every Smithfield team member, from our farms and plants to our corporate offices. We are proud of our strong food safety policies, procedures and performance.

Comprehensive Food Safety Management
We have implemented comprehensive programs and policies that promote food safety and quality throughout our entire supply chain. These measures ensure that every step of our production process, from farm to table, adheres to the highest standards of safety and quality. To further enhance our food safety efforts, we leverage advanced data analytics to continuously monitor key safety indicators. This allows us to quickly identify any potential issues and take immediate corrective action if necessary.
Industry Collaboration
In addition to our internal efforts, we recognize the importance of collaboration in advancing food safety practices industry-wide. To this end, we actively engage with regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. We also work closely with various industry associations on projects aimed at improving food safety standards and enhancing consumer protection. Through these partnerships, we contribute to and benefit from the latest developments in food safety technology and best practices.

Our Accomplishments
Smithfield Foods has made significant strides in ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality across our operations. All of our applicable U.S. and international facilities have achieved Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) certification, which was developed to drive continuous improvement in food safety and quality management systems around the world. We extend this commitment to our supply chain by requiring our suppliers to undergo annual GFSI certification or an equivalent standard, as well as third-party audits for animal handling and transportation. Furthermore, we’ve ensured that 100% of our suppliers are certified under the USDA’s Process Verified Program, a comprehensive farm-to-table assurance initiative.
Across 14 different brands, we had zero product recalls in the U.S. in 2024
